View: What the last-meal ritual for prisoners tells us about life

The ritual of trying to make a condemned prisoner last meal slightly special seems to be followed, in some way, around the world. It is not mandated by prison codes. Yet prison authorities often end up allowing the prisoner a few final treats, within reason. This could simply reflect the fact that jailers are human too.
